Interpenetration of Nets of Different Dimensions

Interpenetration of nets of different dimensions is rare but not unknown. For interpenetration between 1D nets and 2D nets, the nets can be either parallel or inclined, and can give an overall 2D or 3D entanglement. There are no examples to date of 1D/2D → 2D parallel interpenetration or 1D/2D → 3D parallel interpenetration. Examples of other types of mD/pD interpenetration are shown below.
